AWARENESS

Educating and Empowering Our Communities

Rooted in Mental Wellness, Evolving with Purpose

Awareness is the cornerstone for fostering a healthier, more equitable community. As awareness has grown we better understand that mental wellness is shaped not just by what’s within us, but by what surrounds us, including our access to care, safe housing, education, community, and opportunity. These social determinants of health are powerful forces in every life. By showcasing the positive change from community-based care providers, sharing powerful stories and providing educational resources and tools, we aim to strengthen the whole person, and building systems where wellness is possible for all

Mental Wellness Remains Our Foundation

The following are characteristics that contribute to good mental wellness

  • Emotional stability: The ability to manage emotions effectively, including stress, anxiety and depression.
  • Psychological wellbeing:  A sense of purpose, fulfillment and self-worth
  • Social connection: Strong and supportive relationships with others.
  • Resilience: The capacity to bounce back from challenges and setbacks.
  • Adaptive coping mechanisms: Healthy ways of dealing with life’s difficulties.

Mental wellness is not simply the absence of mental illness, but rather a positive state of mind that allows individuals to thrive and contribute to their communities. It encompasses a holistic view of mental health, taking into account factors such as physical wellbeing, social interactions and personal values.

Addressing Social Determinants of Health to Foster Mental Wellness

Mental wellness and social determinants of health are interconnected as factors like access to education, stable housing and social support significantly influence an individual’s mental state. By addressing these social factors, communities can foster healthier more resilient individuals who are better equipped to achieve mental wellbeing.
